Latest work in progress - watch movement decoration

Well, this may not be steampunk per say, but I still find it related enough that I thought it worth a mention... especially while the forum ramps up.

I've always had a fascination with clockwork. The intricacy, the beauty, tiny little machines. Maybe I'll call it springpunk instead. Har har.

Anyway, while I do enjoy the finer movements by the luxury makers, A Lange, Glashutte, etc etc, I really wanted to try my hand at designing something completely custom. A truely one of a kind movement.

Sadly, while I have taken jewelry classes in the past, and I am quite familiar with movement repair, I did not believe I had the skills to do the work required. I found a great guy who does beautiful work after quite a while searching. I went to him with my idea, I made some poor mockups in photoshop, and left him to get started. Depending on how well my 'vision' translates to movements, maybe next time, I will attempt the work myself.

So, I will keep this thread updated as I hear back. I will *not* be sharing my mockups, as they are too embarrassingly bad, but enjoy the progress


After the first round of design, here is where we were at, but much needed to be changed.
   

After the second round of design, and making sure we were both on the same page, work began on the actual movement. I wont spoil the surprise of all the design choices that were made, but here you can see the first steps.

Quick update, as it's been a while.

Going a bit slow due to other projects and the holiday season.
