Submitted Pictures Blurry

All of the photos I have submitted (and those of other people) display blurry in the gallery (but not under "Most Recent") until clicked on and enlarged.

I tried making some of my pictures smaller, some bigger, but neither made a difference in the crispness of the photos. The format of the few non-blurry photos displayed is .jpg, which is what I submitted as well.

How do we submit photos so that they will not be blurry in the gallery, if possible? It's no biggie, but if I can make a change for future submissions, I would like to do that.
