Materials resources
Hello fellow inventors. I wanted to kick off a thread here where we can share materials resources with each other. I realize that this thread is going to take a while to get going, so please check back every now and then, as it will be updated. Feel free to share anything you wish, from hard to find items, to average brass fittings.... everything helps.
Thanks, Inferno |

RE: Materials resources
Your local scrap metal recycler is a great place to find odd shaped brass and copper, especially around industrial areas. Our local place has thousands of doodads and geegaws. You pay a per pound price for these treasures. This might see obvious but I am still asked where I find neat little parts I have.
A good source for wood is your local cabinet shop, they throw away or burn hundreds of board feet a year. DampFlieger (11-24-2008 04:00 PM)SPL Wrote: great idea man. I'll edit my post as I find places, theres quite a few out there. |

RE: Materials resources
Here is a site I found this evening. You can buy overstock brass buttons by the pound. It says about 200 buttons for 8.95 a pound.

RE: Materials resources
Here's another site I usually frequent: instructables.com
http://www.instructables.com/tag/?q=stea...&sort=none They have a load of DYI steam punk projects, more or less "authentic". I find it a great source of inspiration, and the level of authencity you want, is entierly up to you. Everything from cardboard shotguns, to blue tooth hands free hacks and builds. Great site. I hope this site and this forum really picks up the pace, as I have been missing a common portal for years about steam punk. Oh, and Arcanum is THE sp game ever. =) |
